untitled 12 (after agnes)
As a companion to the fixed media release on Sacred Realism (sr001, 2012), this stand alone application will run on the mac osx operating system and allow for repeated, unique, realizations of this complex space that is, at first, almost nothing at all. A plain text file is included in the download for use on other operating systems in conjunction with Supercollider.

JEPH JERMAN
(a month of) sundays
An improvisation recorded in successive layers on quiet Sunday mornings, the neighbors all drunkenly asleep and not too many airplanes circling overhead. I used small speakers attached to a battery, wooden balls, pumice, an e-bow and metal rods, and various spaces around the house and studio. Almost nothing happens.

TYLER WILCOX
loft quartet 9/25
"Loft Quartet 9/25" was written as a part of an ongoing series of workshops in Brooklyn, NY.

At a dinner on July 16th, 2012 at Craig Shepard's apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a group of performer/composers comprised of Dan Joseph, Craig Shepard, Beau Sievers, Jason Brogan, Andrew C. Smith, John Hastings and myself formed a monthly workshop to play through pieces from the experimental tradition.

The first workshop was led by Jason Brogan at Willow Place Auditorium in Brooklyn on August 14th and 15th, 2012. During these two dates, the ensemble, comprised of Andrew C. Smith (piano), Beau Sievers (snare drum/sinetones), Craig Shepard (trombone), Jason Brogan (guitar), Tyler Wilcox (soprano saxophone), Didier Ashour (guitar 8/14), and John Hastings (melodica 8/15), performed Eva Marie Houben's "La Solennité des Silences," James Tenney's "Swell Piece #2" and Joseph Kudirka's "Beauty and Industry."

As the leader of the second workshop, which was held on September 24th, 2012 at listen/space and September 25th, 2012 at my loft in Bushwick, Brooklyn, I chose to lead the ensemble in Radu Malfatti's composition "Heikou" for both nights. During the second night we also performed "Loft Quartet 9/25," which I composed specifically for the group of players present - Craig Shepard (trombone), John Hastings (guitar with ebow), Dan Joseph (hammered dulcimer with ebow), and Tyler Wilcox (soprano saxophone). I see "Loft Quartet 9/25" as the latest piece in a series of compositions begun whilst leading the Eulachon Workshops with Gust Burns in Seattle, WA from 6/10/11-9/11/11. "Loft Quartet 9/25" is, in essence, a collaborative piece. Each player chooses a tone, which is sustained for each given duration. These tones, which together create a series of sound events that alternate with silence, last between 0:10 and 0:30 each, and the silences last between 0:25 and 1:20. The performance of these tones are staggered between players, so the sound event created is a variating chord that shifts based on the players' entrances and exits. All tones are soft
(ppp-p) and are played with a relaxed and steady articulation.

TUCKER DULIN
rockettown
This version of Rockettown is a study for a longer piece in-progess based on slow manipulation of a harmon mute. The non-trombone material consists of 5 frequencies -- 433 Hertz and the 4 preceeding primes. The 3 trombone tones are based on whole number frequency approximations of D, G#, and G and played through a bucket mute. The D and G# tracks were subjected to a simple slow wah-wah effect. The image is from my neighborhood: Park Avenue and Taaffe Place, 11205. http://goo.gl/maps/nZtyD . I hope to evoke an air of psychedelia and a grounded awe of outer space.
